What is the last really creative thing you have seen? Was is a book? A movie? A piece of art? Music? I’m trying to think of the last time was awed by how creative it was. I would have to say it was nature. I haven’t seen, heard, or read anything so amazingly creative I was blow away in over a year. Movies are such a disappointment lately. The industry is playing it safe and only spending movie on sequels to characters already known to be popular. I guess that’s because we as customers don’t go to the theatre to spend money unless it is for a character we already know and enjoy. Books also seem to be more popular in sequels. Rather than experiment with an unknown author and be disappointed, sticking with the same characters is safer. Is that what we are looking for in our free time? Safety is a world that is bombarding us daily?

Desert sunsets are stunningly beautiful. First, as the sun begins to just touch the horizon, the sky turns into more blues than can be named with a Crayola crayon box. Each blue smears into the next with no defined boundary. Then bright yellows and oranges cover the entire sky. Only in the desert have I seen the entire sky, from horizon to horizon be touched so vividly. Then the edges turn red with pink cotton candy clouds. The red fads to a darker blue as stars begin to appear. And while half the sky is dark, with glimmers of stars coming out, the remnants of the sun far down below the horizon shoots out like a volcano of bright hot reds and orange, splitting the encroaching darkness. It is awe inspiring. Full of energy and hope, yet very quiet and peaceful. A glorious transition to be seen daily. Human creativity can’t touch it.
Another awe inspiring natural event that takes my breathe away each time is a wild and reckless thunderstorm. You can see it off in the distance as a black ominous wall approaching. As you watch, you can see it come toward you, running across the terrain with nothing to slow it down. It hits with a sudden force of wind and rain followed by lightening and thunder that shakes the window panes. Thunder so loud you can’t help but gasp, and jump a little, with a nervous giggle. It’s not as creative as a desert sunset, with its innumerable colors, yet it is inspiring. So today, I turn to nature for inspiration and creativity.
